Objectives
How a slim and effective
project management is integrated and supported: matrix processes, line functions
roles, overall project and steering organization
A lot of
people involved in projects ask “Now we are well-trained for project work,
but what's about our bosses? Howe do they learn the tools and the
organizational models. How are they prepared to support projects out of
their line functions?"
Project people usually start project work highly motivated. But soon they have to realize, that interfaces with the line organization are not correctly defined and that the project management needs are not supported correctly. They fell left alone. Partially, projects are even rejected by the project environment.
In this case, a
key role comes to the bosses in the line departments. They have to shift
themselves into the position to know the project management fundamentals, the
applied project management tools and the organizational mode applied to projects
(e.g. project team). Additionally, they have to motivate their people to
participate in projects giving the best of knowledge and effectiveness.
Moreover, steering committee processes and line department processes are
to be adapted to the projects requests, e.g. for priority decisions, supply of
capacity and control of expert work submitted.
